VOLEZ, VOGUEZ, VOYAGEZ — LOUIS VUITTON

For the first time in North America, Louis Vuitton, the iconic French fashion house, unveiled a groundbreaking exhibition dedicated to the humble yet extraordinary steamer trunk. Held at the historic American Stock Exchange Building in New York City, Volez, Voguez, Voyagez (meaning "Sail, Fly, Travel") offered a captivating journey through the brand's rich history.

Curated by Olivier Saillard and designed by Robert Carsen, the exhibition divided Louis Vuitton's influence into ten chapters, showcasing the trunk's evolution and its countless adaptations over the years. From the original steamer trunks to the modern-day travel companions, the exhibition showcased the trunk's versatility and enduring appeal.

A Fashionable Affair

While the exhibition celebrated the trunk's functional history, it also highlighted its role as a fashion statement. Inside, visitors were treated to a glimpse into the personal lives of iconic celebrities like Greta Garbo, Katherine Hepburn, Elizabeth Taylor, Lauren Bacall, Yvonne Printemps, and opera singer Mary Garden. Their trunks, filled with their personal belongings, were presented in a beautifully feminine and upholstered setting.

A Free and Unforgettable Experience

This extraordinary exhibition was open to the public free of charge from October 27th, 2017, to January 7th, 2018. It was a must-see for Louis Vuitton enthusiasts and history buffs alike, offering a unique opportunity to explore the brand's legacy and the enduring allure of the steamer trunk.
