TARGET STORES: RETAIL REIMAGINED
Target opened its new 43,000-square foot store in Herald Square late last year. The store boasts a selection of items curated to the tastes of New York City residents, commuters, and tourists. Since Target had announced its small-format stores coming to NYC, New Yorkers have been eagerly awaiting the opening of their newest location in Midtown Manhattan. I have been one of those eagerly awaiting. Now, they have brought the best of Target to the heart of Herald Square, the epicenter of Manhattan retail.
Target's first Midtown Manhattan store spans two-stories and has entrances on both West 33rd and 34th Street between Seventh and Eighth avenues. The ground floor of the store is configured for grab-and-go purchases and customer checkout and the basement floor resemble the more traditional Target shopping experience.
This Target is about one-third the size of its average store. It will offer same-day delivery and a selection of products more tailored to the local market. The service lets guests have their store purchases delivered later that day to anywhere in Manhattan and parts of Brooklyn and Queens in a two-hour time frame, for a small fee. So far, guests are loving it, and buying nearly four times more products each time they stop in. Like many retailers, Target is trying to appeal to shoppers who are spending more online.
Growing the small-format footprint is just one way they're blending the best of their stores, digital channels and supply chain capabilities to create a seamless shopping experience. Along with same-day delivery, Target is also investing in projects and partnerships like the Target Restock next-day delivery service, Google Express hands-free shopping technology, Pinterest Visual Search and enhanced tech tools for sales associates to use on the sales floor.
How great is that?!
